NATURE WONDER

On Monday I had a shock, I looked out into my garden and noticed on the roof of my neighbours shed a Blackbird, spread eagled wings out. I had never seen anything like it and became concerned that it had been 'Catd'. I went to use Mick's new camera to capture an image, and did then the bird moved I snapped again and then off it went. It had been warming itself, sunbathing if you like. My Mum says she has seen this before, but I never have even heard about it.

Yesterday and today Mick and I have been woken by an unsual bird noise. When we checked it out there on the front public garden area were two Woodpeckers. One appeared to be adult the other juvenile. They were in a feeding frenzie and had found a ready source in the cracks of the pavement slabs for which their slim long beaks are perfectly adapted. The early bird catches the worm, is an old saying but these two were the thinking early birds. I saw the adult also feed the juvenile. They walked!!!! all over the area and up our front path. Another adult set up an alarm when Smudge the cat wondered up to have a look and the two flew into the Silver Birch doing the Woodpecker thing of hanging on the bark. On the first day I saw the two WP's a Blackbird and a Thrush. Today the two WP's a Blackbird, a Wren and a Squirrel, all from my bedroom window what more can I ask. Love Granny

MUCH TO SAY

Child deaths, children killing children and a moral panic about knives. Historically speaking young people have been demonised and blamed for crime, and the gang thing is not new. How short are our memories, Teddy Boys, Mods and Rockers, skinheads etc etc indeed the changes in our law's over the years reflect this. I do agree that there is a 'problem' but I do think society gets what it demands, freedom from state intervention one of the results of this is what we have now. Poor schooling, poor policing not because the teachers and officers want to step back society demands it. So there needs to be a debate about what society needs in order to function without fear. Freedom of life styles and behaviour or rules of behaviour. Look at the interviews with some parents who have abdicated responsibility for preparing young people for life and work. I am fed up with hearing 'I can't keep an eye on them 24 hours a day' excuse from parents. I do however believe that children are not property to be owned any more than a woman is the property of a man, I do believe that parents have responsibility from conception to the point when a child becomes and adult. If they don't want this responsibility then don't have the child.

Six young people died in a terrible car accident with a lorry, anybody with any sense looking at the scene from the air, can see why this accident happened and it was not the lorry drivers fault. What do we hear that the parent of one victim blames the police for seizing the uninsured vehicle driven and used by 4 of them he said that if the police had not abandoned the young people to make their way home they would not be dead. It was the drivers choice to break the law on insurance (and carry passengers) and then to phone the driver of the crash vehicle to come and get them and not the parents who might have helped. Six people in a Mondeo are too many all of this was the choice of the six and reflects their inexperience. I repeat the underused 'R' word responsibility.

The financial situation in the world is entirely a reflection of the greed of the elites of the world wanting more and more and for big and small corporations trying to make a fast buck. This has meant that the developing industrial countries have raced to meet this demand with out measured and considered growth. It is of course the 'anyperson' who will suffer but the money bags of whom there are only a few (the Mr/Mrs Bigs) and who control the global corporations will sit nicely to pick up the pieces.

Congestion, the easy way to express this is DRIVE according to the rules, don't block roundabouts and other junctions, don't push out, push in. Bus drivers are very guilty of this when a bus across a road with frankly no where to go cause additional congestion to the one they see around them.

My views on China are well known, however following the earthquake I have had the people in my heart, and for once a large army has paid dividends. The Panda's also are in my thoughts, thank god some people have been in a position to spare their time for them. Again my heart has been with the children orphand by the quake. How different were my thoughts for the cyclone victims so badly let down by their govenment.

What can I say about Mugabe, disgusting example of dictatorship and how democracy can be used to hold people down. But hey arn't the 'EU' also treating the Irish referendum vote with contempt, have a vote and keep to it. Love Granny
