I may have mentioned in passing that I am into history! well does anybody out there know the whereabouts of the family of Alice Bertha Clayden with a possible surname of Alderson. Bertha was one of the first Meteropolitan Police, Women patrols and between 1923 and 1930 was the senior woman officer. I am also keen to trace the families of any other the 200 women who served from 1919 - 1939. This is to support my Phd work. Thanks. Granny

Hi
I guess I'm a bit late for your PhD!? How did you get on?
I am by birth a Clayden, Alice was a first cousin, twice removed. I am tracing my Clayden family tree but as yet there are no Alderson's although I have a way to go.
I am reading a book borrowed from British Library entitled 'A Woman at Scotland Yard' by Lilian Wyles - brilliant and Bertha (as she was known) is mentioned.
